Ardmair Bay…..

Ardmair Bay

This is the latest in a series of work inspired by my visit to Ullapool and the surrounding area last June.   This particular piece is based on a photograph I took at Ardmair Bay looking out to sea.  The base is vilene, painted with Inktense and layered with sheers, netting, muslin and a little Nuno Felting.  The pebble beach is made from cocoon strippings and unknown fibres.  Size 22cm x 34cm.

  1. Fab-u-lous and very inspiring. I love the subtle colours and elegant textures.
I have friends who moved from an inland village on the east coast to the west coast of Scotland….only 100m from the beach! If they can’t find me they know I’m on the beach taking photos, or collecting driftwood. Your picture has inspired me to try layering some felt and adding texture, but which photo , because like you I have so many.

    • Great to hear you’ve been inspired to make a piece yourself Antje! I would love to see it when you’ve finished. I envy you having friends to stay with on such a beautiful coastline.

  2. That is really lovely Karen. It looks to me like a beautiful, calm sunset evening. I like the subtle pinks and blues of the sky. The waves, the beach and the stitching are pretty fab too! We stayed in a bothy at Red Point, Ullapool many years ago, but I remember the gorgeous beaches.
