My name is Karen Lane and I’m a Mixed Media Textile Artist with a passion for Feltmaking. I discovered the art of Feltmaking in 2014 and immediately fell in love with the very physical and tactile process of transforming loose soft fibres into a unique piece of seamless felt.
I have always found myself drawn to texture and often work with a limited colour palette to allow the texture to be the key element. Working with mixed media means I can combine hard and soft, smooth and rough, whether I’m creating a pendant, a wall hanging or a wearable. For me the tactile element plays a huge role in the design process.
Nature provides a never ending source of inspiration for my work, from trees and leaves to fossils and found objects, some of which are used as “inclusions” in my work.
I am a member of the International Feltmakers Association and run group workshops for up to fifteen people in Feltmaking and Textile Art across the UK. I also run workshops for up to four students at a time in my home studio in Horncastle, Lincolnshire.

TESTIMONIALS…..
Mary Harlow – Wet Felted Collars – November 2025
“Thank you for such a brilliant day at Twyford. I was amazed by how much we got done and your ability to get round everyone and with such good humour! You must have been exhausted. Hope to see you again before too long.”
Julie Davis – Wet Felted Picture – July 2025
”I would like to say thank you for giving me an insight into the world of felting. I thoroughly enjoyed the day. I learnt so much and produced a “work of art” that I’m very proud of.
You are a such a great teacher, giving generously of your knowledge, time, enthusiasm, guidance and patience. It is amazing what you can do with these techniques and I am fascinated by your work and would recommend your workshops to anyone with a love of creative experiences.”
Tara – Wet Felting for Beginners – January 2025
“I just wanted to say thank you so so much for today. You have been so patient and a true inspiration. Please keep me up-to-date with any more courses you are running because I cannot wait to learn more from you.”
Lesley McCallion – Roll Edge Collar Workshop – April 2024
“I spent a day with Karen learning to make a rolled felt collar. The experience was wonderful because through Karen’s expertise I learned and grew so much in terms of technique to help me improve and revise some existing feltmaking skills. Karen also helped me think more about adapting felt making techniques to favour my needs. I had a glorious, enjoyable day and I feel I received a masterclass in terms of tuition in a relaxed, welcoming and supportive setting. I would recommend Karen’s classes. She is an excellent, knowledgeable and enthusiastic tutor.”
Sue Critchley, Talk and Brooch Workshop in Stafford – March 2024
“Karen came to our sewing group (Itching to Stitch) to talk about her adventure into sewing and felt making, and to show us her amazing work. The evening was both informative and entertaining and left us very eager for the following day when she ran a day school on making felt brooches which was a great success.
Her work is truly inspirational and she worked so hard to set us all on the path to success. She was a brilliant teacher who broke the stages of felt making into achievable units, and continuously came round encouraging and checking that we were heading in the right direction.”
Marny, Lumpy Bowl Workshop – February 2024
”Thank you once again for such a delightful day. We all really enjoyed the workshop and your relaxed and encouraging company. We are super impressed with our pots.”

Ann Kingdom, TASAM – Talk via Zoom: My F-Plan Diet – February 2023
“I really enjoyed this Zoom talk and found it really interesting. Our speakers usually come from some sort of further education background in an art related subject so it was very refreshing to hear from someone who has found her way into textile art without that background. There’s hope for me yet! Thank you to Vernice and Christine for arranging this fascinating speaker. If Karen does come for a workshop I’ll be front and centre to sign up!”
Christine Hill – Talk via Zoom: My F-Plan Diet – February 2023
“Thank you for a wonderful presentation, it was informative and fascinating and I think we all enjoyed it. For me it was lovely to see how your inspiration came from Lincolnshire. I believe you said it was your first zoom presentation, if so, I must congratulate you, it was very professional, the images were very clear.”
Sue Barker – Needle Felted Mushroom – April 2022
“What a cracking day I had yesterday! Thank you so much for your expertise, enthusiasm and inspiration. I’m so pleased with my mushroom, I can’t wait to join you again to learn more. It was a perfectly joyful day.”
Jill Hall – Wet Felting – March 2022
“Thank you so much Karen, we all enjoyed our workshop with you today, and particularly appreciate how generous you are with your knowledge. It was also noted that this is the first felting workshop we’ve been to where the room was not awash. A great learning experience and I look forward to being in touch again soon to book another one.”
Jenny Hall (Material Girls) – Layer, Stitch & Burn – Sept 2024 “Well thanks for a fab day. The What’s App group has been buzzing tonight with everyone saying what a great day they have had.”
